Rochester, New York (March 7, 2017) – Race of Champions management and regional recording artist Eddie Lee have reached a promotional agreement and have currently agreed to three dates to enhance the 2017 Race of Champions schedule. Lee and his band, Closing Time, will play twice at Lancaster National Speedway on Thursday, June 29 and as part of the U.S. Open Weekend in September as well as a part of the Race of Champions event at Lake Erie Speedway on Thursday, September 28, kicking off the weekend.
“I have always been a big Race of Champions asphalt modified racing fan,” stated Eddie Lee. “I have several friendships that exist based on my history of being a fan of this sport. It has rewarded me with some very memorable times and we feel this is a great way to bring together two great forms of entertainment and enhance the fans experience. Great racing and enjoyable music will go hand-in-hand and we are very proud to play a role in the promotion of the Race of Champions.”
Eddie Lee and Closing Time have played as the opening act for several stars including Joe Diffie, Marty Stuart, Confederate Railroad, Aaron Tippin and the Nitty Grit Dirt Band. Later this year the band will open for Clint Black, in addition to having released their own LP, “Tougher than Train Smoke”.
“Eddie approached us with this idea,” stated Race of Champions steward Joe Skotnicki. “We are always looking for unique, fresh ideas to promote our events and the sport to create and build new fans. This provided a great opportunity to join two recognized genres and bring them together. It is a great opportunity that we hope fans from both sides will embrace and assist in continuing to build our brand of racing into must-see events.”
The Race of Champions is a sanctioning body presenting Modified and Stock Car racing on asphalt and dirt surfaces throughout the Northeast, with events in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The 67th annual Race of Champions weekend will take place in 2017 at Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pa., on September 28, 29 and 30.
